FAQ

Can One Potato accommodate Nut Free and Gluten Free families?

One Potato offers nut free and/or gluten free versions of all of our recipes. We simply send alternatives to foods that contain nuts & gluten. Login to your account and click on your My Plan page. Select Nut Free and/or Gluten Free in your dietary preferences.

However, please be aware that One Potato is not a nut free or gluten free facility. We do have products in our kitchen that contain nuts and gluten, and while we take the greatest care in preparing our meals, we cannot guarantee that there is no cross contamination.

Just follow these 3 easy steps and you’ll be cooking simple, organic meals for your family without the stress of shopping, planning, and prepping ingredients:

Sign Up: tell us the size of your family (# of adults and # of children), how often you'd like to cook (2-3 nights per week), and any dietary restrictions you may have (i.e. poultry, red meat, pork, fish, shellfish). We offer vegan, vegetarian, nut free and gluten free meals as well. You can choose your menu each week, and will receive an email with pictures and recipes of the delicious meals you’ll be cooking!

Receive Your Box: this is the fun part! Each Tuesday or Wednesday (depending on where you live), a box of incredibly fresh, organic food arrives at your home, packed in a cooled, insulated box. What’s more, it’s measured and semi-chopped, ready to prepare. The box includes delicious meals and simple instructions, customized to your family. And each week, we include a surprise roll of slice-and-bake cookie dough!

Going out of town? Just login to your Deliveries page and skip your delivery that week, or have your box forwarded to another address. We have no membership fee, and no minimum commitment. You can skip any week's delivery up to 6 weeks in the future, or cancel at any time.

Start Cooking & Enjoy: you decide which of the meals you’ll be cooking that night. Refrigerate the rest (or freeze the proteins if you won’t be eating them within 4-5 days). Encourage your kids to help out, and within 30 minutes, your whole family will be eating a tasty, organic, and healthy dinner together.

How does One Potato handle Covid?

We provide food to thousands of families every week. It is a tremendous responsibility, all the more so in times like these. The One Potato facility has consistently exceeded federal sanitization standards since we first opened our doors, however in light of the high level of coronavirus cases occurring throughout California, where we are based, as well as the entire United States, we’ve prioritized taking extra steps to ensu re the safety of our staff, their families and our customers. It is important to note that according to leading experts as well as the CDC, WHO and FDA, there is no evidence of food or food packaging being associated with transmission of COVID-19. Regardless, our entire staff is trained in the latest methods to ensure that our packaging and food are always sanitized to the highest level possible before being shipped to our customers. In addition, we have strict protocols in place to deal with identifying and handling any instance of a staff member testing positive for COVID-19. We are deeply appreciative of the heroic work performed daily by our staff and delivery teams to keep our customers’ families fed in this time of need and we are doing all we can to support them and provide them with the safest of working environments.

Below is a summary of the steps we're taking to ensure the safest working conditions for our Operations team:

  • Professionally sanitizing both our facility and vehicles transporting One Potato bags in Southern California thoroughly per CDC guidelines.
  • Conducting daily disinfection of our warehouses, and weekly full-warehouse deep cleans.
  • Providing gloves, masks, hand soap, sneeze guards, and sanitizer at all times for all employees.
  • Mandatory temperature checks when employees arrive at work.
  • Requiring that employees stand 3 to 6 feet apart from one another at all times.
  • Providing sanitizer, masks and gloves to all delivery drivers.
  • Instructing all drivers to bring boxes to the customer’s door, text the customer that the order has been delivered, and avoid ringing doorbells or touching anything at drop off aside from the box itself.
  • Any employee who shows symptoms consistent with the coronavirus will be directed to stay home and self-quarantine for a 14-day period and will not return to work until they receive two, consecutive “negative” test results. Employee will receive paid leave during this time. Immediately implement tracking and tracing procedures to identify anyone who had close contact with an affected employee.
How is One Potato different from other meal kit delivery services?

One Potato is the only mealtime solution created by families for families. We understand the desire to feed your family organic, wholesome, home cooked food, but also the reality of a busy schedule. So we’ve made One Potato easy, affordable, and reliable.

Family-Friendly

One Potato is the only meal kit designed to feed the entire family:

  • Family Portions: Specify the size of your family and you will receive portions appropriate to the number of adults and kids so that there is no waste.
  • Family-friendly Pricing: We make it affordable to feed your family organic meals by offering child portion pricing.
  • Kid-friendly recipes: All recipes are from the trusted family food brand Weelicious and a James Beard award-winning chef. We all know how challenging it can be to introduce new flavors to your children, so we’re here to help.
  • Kids included: We encourage children to help in the kitchen, and we provide tips & recommendations on how to safely include them! Plus, there is cookie dough in every box!

Organic & Local

As parents, we know how important it is to know what your kids are eating. That’s why all of the protein and produce we deliver to your home is certified organic. One Potato purchases its ingredients from local farms and vendors.

Pre-chopped Ingredients

Time is of the essence when you have a hungry family waiting. With semi-chopped and prepared ingredients, along with explicit instructions, you’ll be able to whip up a delicious and healthy meal in 30 minutes or less.

Weekly Surprises

Who doesn’t love a good surprise? We know your kids do. Each week you’ll receive your own organic slice-and-bake cookie dough to end your meal with that perfect bite of dessert.

All in all, One Potato will simplify your life without breaking your bank, and will keep your family on the road to healthy living.

How long does it take to prepare a One Potato meal?

It takes 30 minutes or less to prepare a One Potato meal. Our ingredients arrive semi-prepared. For example, most of our proteins and vegetables arrive pre-cut and sauces and marinades are ready to cook. Our goal is to make cooking as easy and enjoyable as possible, and to allow you that extra time to spend with your family.

What is a child sized portion?

A child size portion is approximately half of an adult portion.

What is Weelicious and how is it related to One Potato?

Weelicious is One Potato co-founder Catherine McCord’s family food brand which includes a website, cookbooks and menu planning service. For over twelve years, Catherine has been providing fast, easy and fresh recipes for every member of the family – no matter their age. The Weelicious audience has been clamoring for the opportunity to have the ingredients and recipes delivered straight to their door, and now One Potato is the answer.

Why is the family meal important?

Studies have shown that eating dinner together as a family has a positive impact on children’s behavior and eating habits. Results have shown academic benefits such as an increased vocabulary, earlier reading, and better test scores. There are also nutritional benefits as children are more likely to eat more fruits and vegetables, and are more open to trying new foods, when eating together as a family.

One Potato understands that preparing a meal that every member of the family will enjoy is often difficult, but we also believe it’s possible. By offering recipes that have proven appeal to both kids and adults alike, One Potato saves the family chef from making multiple meals and provides a simple pathway to the rewards of family dinner.

+I missed the deadline to skip the box. Can I request a last minute skip?

If you contact us (hello@onepotato.com) before Friday at 9am Pacific Time, we will allow you to pull your delivery and will charge a 50% last minute pull fee. As we order and prep all the ingredients based on the number of orders we receive, this covers the food cost on our end. After Friday at 9am, we will not pull any deliveries or issue refunds. You can contact us to donate your box to a family in need. Thank you for your understanding.

+What if I’m not home during delivery?

If you are not home when a delivery is made, the shipping carrier will typically leave your order at your doorstep. To ensure your order stays fresh until you get home, we pack your ingredients in an insulated box with frozen gel packs.

Depending on your area, you may be able to provide additional delivery instructions within the Shipping section of Account Settings (e.g., leaving the delivery at the back door or with a neighbor).

Please note: while carriers may be able to honor these special delivery instructions, One Potato cannot guarantee that they’ll be accommodated and isn’t liable for any lost, stolen or damaged deliveries that result from these requests.

+When will my delivery arrive?

Depending on your zip code, deliveries are scheduled to arrive on Tuesdays or Wednesdays (holiday shipping schedules may vary). You will receive a Shipping email each week with a tracking number to follow your delivery.

+Where do you deliver?

We are now welcoming new subscribers from across the United Stated with the exception of a few select zip codes.

If we don’t deliver to you, visit http://onepotato.com/join to join our waiting list.

+What if my box is delayed? Do I need to throw away the ingredients?

We pack our boxes to accommodate time in transit, so everything should still be in great condition when it arrives! The insulation packaging is designed to create a cool environment despite how frozen the ice packs are, so when it arrives, please make sure you go through the ingredients as most of the produce and dry goods can remain at room temperature and are safe to keep and use. We try to mitigate as much food waste as possible, but with that being said, obviously we wouldn't want you to eat anything you are not comfortable with. In the event you do not wish to consume specific ingredients if your box was delayed, please email hello@onepotato.com to let us know which ingredients specifically and include photos and we'd be happy to credit your One Potato account accordingly for those items.

+What if an ingredient expires before the expiration date on the label?

If you ever have concerns about any ingredients upon arrival, please email hello@onepotato.com with photos and we would be happy to take care of it, but unfortunately we are unable to offer credits for items that have been in your possession for more than 48 hours.

We are proud to inform you that none of our ingredients contain preservatives. With that being said, we estimate that the protein meals are typically good for 4-5 days, but we do recommend freezing the meats/fish/poultry (they arrive to you fresh) within the first few days if you know you won't be eating them for 5-6 days. The veggie meals {may} be good for up to a week, but as with any case in dealing with things like salad, and fresh produce, those ingredients may not be as fresh and we recommend you prepare your fresh produce meals first. You can find more information at onepotato.com/ingredients.

+Why am I being charged a fuel surcharge?

As you may have heard, fuel prices are at an all-time high, and in order to continue to run our operations effectively, we are going to begin charging a $4.95 fuel surcharge per local Los Angeles bag delivery. This will allow us to ensure you receive your bags in a timely and efficient manner.

SMOOTHIES

+Can I refrigerate my smoothie packs instead of freezing them?

YES! If you prefer a smoothie that’s not too cold, simply transfer your smoothie pack from the freezer to the fridge the night before to let the ingredients defrost overnight. In the morning just blend with your liquid as you normally would.

+My smoothie packs arrived slightly defrosted, is that ok?

Totally. Your smoothies ship frozen and packed in insulated packaging with ice packs that are all 100% recyclable. The smoothie packs may soften slightly during shipping but they are perfectly safe to refreeze or put in your refrigerator, depending on your preference.

+How many servings are in each smoothie pack?

Each pack makes a 14-16 ounce* smoothie, ideal for one adult smoothie or two kid-sized servings.
*Note: We recommend using 1 cup of your favorite milk, but you can add a little less or more depending on whether you prefer a thicker or thinner smoothie.

+Can I create a recurring order?

Absolutely. If you want to “set it and forget it” so that you receive the same smoothie pack order every week, simply click the appropriate default option at check out.

+Are the smoothies gluten-free?

Yes. All of your smoothies are naturally gluten-free, as well as vegetarian and dairy-free!

+Can I add other ingredients I may have on hand to my smoothies?

100%! Our smoothie packs are designed to have nutritional and flavor balance so you don’t need to add anything to them but your milk, but feel free to try adding ingredients you love or which may suit your particular nutritional needs. Collagen peptides, chia or hemp seeds, even a fruit or veg you love — the list is endless.

+Can I cancel at anytime?

We’ll miss you, but yes.
