Frozen Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Bites

Frozen Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Bites are a simple, freezer-friendly snack made with bananas, peanut butter, and melted chocolate. An easy treat that’s perfect for kids and grown-ups alike!

The “Poppable” Healthy Treat You’ll Want to Stockpile

When bananas, chocolate, and peanut butter come together, you know it’s going to be good. These Frozen Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Bites are sweet, creamy, and perfectly “poppable” straight from the freezer. Naturally sweetened by ripe bananas and made with just four real ingredients, they are the ultimate solution for an after-school snack, a healthier dessert, or a clever way to use up those extra-ripe bananas on your counter.

Why This Recipe Wins

  • Cool & Refreshing: These are ice-cold and satisfying—perfect for warm days but delicious as a late-night treat year-round.
  • Kid-Friendly Fun: Dipping “banana sandwiches” into melted chocolate is a fantastic kitchen activity for little hands.
  • Wholesome Ingredients: No mystery additives—just fruit, protein-rich nut butter, and a bit of chocolate for a balanced, satisfying bite.
  • Meal Prep Magic: They stay fresh in the freezer for up to 3 months, making them a great “grab-and-go” dessert.

What You’ll Need

  • 2–3 Ripe Bananas: Sliced into rounds.
  • 1/3 cup Peanut Butter: Creamy or crunchy (or swap for almond or sunflower butter!).
  • 1 cup Chocolate Chips: Dark, semi-sweet, or milk chocolate all work beautifully.
  • 1 tsp Coconut Oil: This is the secret to a smooth, shiny chocolate shell that cracks perfectly when you bite into it.

How to Make It

  1. The Sandwiches: Place half of your banana slices on a parchment-lined sheet. Top each with ½ teaspoon of peanut butter and cap it with another banana slice. Freeze for 1 hour until firm.
  2. The Melt: Microwave the chocolate chips and coconut oil in 30-second intervals until smooth.Tip: Let the chocolate cool for 5 minutes before dipping so it doesn’t melt the peanut butter on contact!
  3. The Dip: Using a fork, dip each frozen sandwich into the chocolate. Let the excess drip off, then place it back on the parchment.
  4. The Final Freeze: Freeze for another hour until the shell is set. Transfer to a freezer bag and enjoy whenever the craving hits!

Get the Kids Involved: The “Dipping Station”

Since this is a multi-step process, it’s a great way to give kids different “jobs” in the kitchen.

  • Ages 3–5: Let them be the “Sandwich Stackers.” After you place the peanut butter, they can carefully place the top banana slice on each one.
  • Ages 6–9: Have them help “decorate.” Before the chocolate sets, they can sprinkle on crushed pretzels, shredded coconut, or extra mini chocolate chips.
  • Ages 10+: Let them lead the “Dipping Technique.” Show them how to use a fork to lift the bites out of the chocolate so they don’t get messy fingers.

Make It Your Own

  • The “Crunch” Factor: Use crunchy peanut butter or roll the chocolate-dipped bites in crushed peanuts before freezing for extra texture.
  • Allergy-Friendly: Swap the peanut butter for sunflower seed butter and use dairy-free chocolate chips for a school-safe treat.
  • Work in Batches: Keep the banana sandwiches in the freezer and only pull out 5 at a time to dip. They thaw quickly, and cold bananas make the chocolate set much faster!
  • The “Double Drizzle”: For a fancy look, melt a little white chocolate and drizzle it over the dark chocolate shells once they’ve set.

Serve & Savor

These bites are best enjoyed straight from the freezer while the banana is still “ice cream” consistency. They are simple, wholesome, and irresistibly good.

No reviews

Frozen Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Bites are an easy-to-make snack that both kids and adults will love. Made with just a handful of simple ingredients, these bite-sized treats are creamy, chocolatey, and perfectly sweet. Keep a batch in your freezer for a quick after-school snack, healthier dessert, or anytime craving fix.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 bananas, sliced into about 30 wheels

  • 5 tablespoons peanut butter (or almond butter, cashew butter, sunflower seed butter, or crunchy peanut butter)

  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil

  • 1 cup semi-sweet, dark, or milk chocolate chips

Instructions

Step 1: Assemble the Banana Sandwiches
Place 15 banana slices on a parchment-lined baking sheet or plate. Top each slice with about ½ teaspoon of peanut butter. Add another banana slice on top to create little “sandwiches.”

Step 2: Freeze
Place the banana sandwiches in the freezer for at least 1 hour, or until firm.

Step 3: Melt the Chocolate
In a microwave-safe glass bowl, melt the coconut oil and chocolate chips for 30 seconds to 1 minute, stirring until smooth. Alternatively, melt them together in a small saucepan over low heat for 2–3 minutes, stirring continuously.
Allow the chocolate to cool slightly for about 5 minutes.

Step 4: Dip and Freeze Again
Using a fork, dip each frozen banana sandwich into the melted chocolate, making sure it’s fully coated. Let the excess chocolate drip off before placing it back onto the parchment-lined tray.

Freeze for at least 1 hour (or up to 24 hours) until fully set.

Step 5: Store
Transfer the frozen bites to a zipper bag or airtight container and store in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Notes

  • Work in Batches: Keep most of the banana bites in the freezer while dipping. They thaw quickly and can become slippery.

  • Cool the Chocolate Slightly: If the chocolate is too hot, it can melt the peanut butter and cause the banana slices to slide apart.

  • Use Parchment Paper: This prevents sticking and makes cleanup much easier.

  • Storage Tip: Label your container with the date so you know when you made them.
