No reviews

A creative, naturally gluten-free twist on the classic PB&J—using crisp apple slices as the “bread” for a refreshing, nutritious, and kid-approved meal.

Ingredients

  • Large apples (Fuji, Gala, or Honeycrisp recommended)
  • Nut butter (peanut, almond, or sunflower seed butter)
  • Jam or preserves (strawberry or raspberry preferred)
  • Granola or hemp seeds (optional, for coating)
  • Lemon juice (for anti-browning solution)

Instructions

1. Core the Apples

  • Use an apple corer to remove the center.

2. Slice into Rings

  • Slice apples horizontally into ½-inch thick rounds.

3. Prevent Browning

  • Prepare a bowl of water with:
    • A squeeze of lemon juice (or a pinch of salt)
  • Briefly dip apple slices, then pat dry.

4. Add Filling

  • Spread a layer of nut butter on one apple ring.
  • Add a small amount of jam or preserves on top.

5. Assemble

  • Place a second apple ring on top to form a sandwich.

6. Optional Finish

  • Roll the edges in granola or hemp seeds for added texture and nutrition.

Notes

  • Use firm apples: Ensures structural integrity and crunch
  • Control moisture: Always pat slices dry after dipping
  • Balance filling: Avoid overfilling to prevent slipping
