Instructions
-
Sauté the Aromatics: Heat the oil in a large sauté pan over medium-high heat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, then cook for about 3 minutes until softened and fragrant.
-
Brown the Turkey: Add the ground turkey and let it sear undisturbed for about 1 minute. Break it apart with a wooden spoon and cook for another 4–5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
-
Season and Cook: Add the diced bell pepper, taco seasoning, and salt. Cook for another 2–3 minutes, stirring until the turkey is fully cooked and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
-
Finish the Filling: Stir in the chopped cilantro and fresh lime juice. Remove the pan from the heat.
-
Prepare the Bowls: Divide the chopped romaine among serving bowls. Top with the seasoned turkey, black beans, diced tomatoes, and shredded cheese.
-
Add the Crunch: Finish each bowl with a handful of corn tortilla chips.
-
Customize and Serve: Add guacamole, salsa, sour cream, or hot sauce as desired. Alternatively, arrange all the ingredients separately and let everyone build their own bowl.
Notes
-
Let the turkey brown: Give it a minute to sear before breaking it apart for better flavor.
-
Adjust the seasoning: Start with 2 tablespoons of taco seasoning and add more to taste.
-
Keep the chips crunchy: Add tortilla chips just before serving so they do not become soggy.
-
Drain the beans well: Rinsing and draining the black beans helps keep excess liquid out of the bowls.
-
Prepare toppings ahead: Chop the vegetables and portion the toppings before cooking to make assembly easier.
