These Juicy Turkey Burgers with Oats are a simple, family-friendly twist on the classic burger. Rolled oats help give the patties structure while keeping them tender, and a few pantry spices add plenty of flavor without making the ingredient list complicated.

Ready in about 20 minutes, they’re an easy choice for busy weeknights and can be cooked on the stovetop or grill.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/3 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 pound ground turkey, preferably around 7% fat
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon oil, for the pan
  • 4 brioche or hamburger buns
  • Toppings of choice, such as lettuce, tomato, red onion, guacamole, mayonnaise, mustard, or ketchup

Instructions

  1. Place the oats in a blender or food processor and pulse until finely ground.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, ground oats, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Mix gently until just combined.
  3. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties just under 1 inch thick. If the mixture sticks to your hands, dampen them with a little cold water.
  4. Heat a thin layer of oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  5. Cook the patties for 5–6 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through to an internal temperature of 165°F.
  6. Serve on buns with favorite toppings.

Notes

  • For juicy burgers: Ground turkey with around 7% fat tends to stay more tender than very lean varieties.
  • Don’t overmix: Mix the ingredients just until combined to help keep the patties tender.
  • For sliders: Divide the mixture into 8 smaller patties and cook for about 2–3 minutes per side.
  • For grilling: Preheat the grill to medium-high heat, grease the grates well, and cook the patties for 5–6 minutes per side, or until they reach 165°F.
  • Easy customization: Swap the bun for a lettuce wrap or serve the burger patty over a salad for a different way to enjoy it.
