Waffle French Toast brings together two breakfast favorites in one easy recipe. Thick slices of bread are soaked in a lightly sweet cinnamon-egg mixture, then cooked in a waffle iron until golden on the outside and tender inside.

It’s a fun twist on classic French toast and a great way to make breakfast feel extra special without adding much extra work.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, optional
  • 8 slices bread, such as cinnamon raisin, challah, pain perdu, or another favorite sturdy bread

Instructions

  1. Preheat and lightly grease a waffle iron.
  2. In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, maple syrup, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. Dip each side of the bread into the egg mixture, making sure it is well coated without becoming overly soaked.
  4. Place the coated bread in the waffle iron and cook for about 5 minutes, or until golden and cooked through.
  5. Serve warm with favorite toppings.

Notes

  • Choose sturdy bread: Challah, cinnamon raisin bread, and other thick-cut breads hold up especially well.
  • Don’t oversoak: A quick dip on each side is enough to coat the bread without making it soggy.
  • Keep it warm: Place cooked pieces on a wire rack in a low oven while finishing the rest of the batch.
  • Try different flavors: Add a splash of vanilla extract or a pinch of nutmeg to the egg mixture for another easy variation.
