Easy Almond Milk

Ran out of almond milk but need a quick solution? This Easy Almond Milk recipe is a simple blender hack that comes together in minutes using almond butter. Smooth, lightly sweet, and perfectly creamy, it’s ideal for cereal, smoothies, coffee, or baking when you need dairy-free milk fast.

The “Emergency” Milk Ready in Minutes

We’ve all been there: you’ve just poured a bowl of your favorite granola only to realize the almond milk carton is empty. Since Gemma is dairy-free and my other kids prefer plant-based milk too, we go through it fast! While traditional Homemade Almond Milk is great, it requires soaking and straining. This “hack” version uses almond butter to give you creamy, delicious milk in about 60 seconds. It’s the perfect recipe to keep in your back pocket!

What You’ll Need

  • 2 tbsp Almond Butter: Smooth works best for a silky consistency.
  • 2 cups Water: Use filtered water for the best taste.
  • 1 tsp Maple Syrup (Optional): For a hint of natural sweetness.
  • ½ tsp Vanilla Extract (Optional): For that classic “store-bought” flavor profile.
  • A Pinch of Sea Salt: This is the “secret” to making the flavors pop.

How to Make It

  1. Add to Blender: Place the almond butter, water, and your optional sweeteners/flavors into the blender.
  2. High-Speed Whirl: Blend on high for about 30–60 seconds. You’ll see the water and butter emulsify into a beautiful, creamy white milk.
  3. No Straining Required: Unlike almond milk made from scratch, there’s no pulp to strain out!
  4. Serve or Store: Pour it straight onto your cereal or into your smoothie. If you have leftovers, keep them in a jar in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Get the Kids Involved

Since this is basically a “magic” trick where brown nut butter turns into white milk, kids find it fascinating to watch.

  • Ages 3–5: Let them help “push the button” and watch the transformation through the blender jar.
  • Ages 6–9: Have them help measure out the almond butter and water. It’s a great lesson in ratios!
  • Ages 10+: Let them be the “Milk Master.” If you run out, they can take charge of whipping up a fresh batch for the family.

Make It Weeknight-Friendly

  • The “No-Blender” Version: If you’re in a massive rush, you can actually make a single serving by whisking a tablespoon of almond butter with a cup of water in a jar—just shake it really hard!
  • Consistency Control: Like your milk a little richer? Add another tablespoon of almond butter. Prefer it lighter? Add an extra half-cup of water.
  • Flavor Riffs: You can easily turn this into Chocolate Almond Milk by adding a teaspoon of cocoa powder and an extra dash of maple syrup.
  • Zero Waste: Since you aren’t straining out any almond pulp, you’re getting 100% of the fiber and nutrients from the almonds.

Serve & Savor

Whether you need a quick fix for your Blueberry Chia Smoothie or a cold glass to dip your Chocolate Chip Cookies in, this hack is a lifesaver. As long as you have a jar of almond butter in the pantry, you’re never truly “out” of milk!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups cold water

  • 3 tablespoons almond butter

  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup

  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Add the cold water, almond butter, vanilla extract, maple syrup, and a small pinch of salt to a blender.

  2. Blend on high speed until completely smooth and fully combined, about 20–30 seconds.

  3. Taste and adjust sweetness or salt if desired.

  4. Use immediately or store in a sealed container in the refrigerator.

Notes

No Soaking Required

Adjust Sweetness
Add more maple syrup for sweeter milk or omit entirely for an unsweetened version.

Make It Frothy for Coffee
Blend an extra 10–15 seconds for a lighter, frothier texture perfect for lattes.

Storage
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Shake well before using, as natural separation may occur.

Flavor Variations

  • Chocolate: Add 1 teaspoon cocoa powder.

  • Cinnamon Vanilla: Add a pinch of cinnamon.

  • Unsweetened: Skip maple syrup for a neutral milk base.
