Creamy, Sweet, and Completely Banana-Free
Even reading the words “I don’t like bananas” is a shock to some, but let’s be real—they aren’t for everyone! If you’re a banana skeptic, you usually miss out on that signature smoothie thickness. This “Everything But Banana” Smoothie is the answer. By using frozen mango and avocado, you get that lush, velvety texture and natural sweetness without a single slice of banana in sight.
What You’ll Need
- Frozen Mango: The secret weapon for a thick, frosty, and sweet base.
- Avocado: Adds “vegan butter” creaminess and healthy fats to keep you full.
- Strawberries: For a boost of antioxidants and a beautiful pink hue.
- Carrot: A great way to sneak in Vitamin A and an extra pop of color.
- Dates: To balance out the earthy flavors of the carrot or any added spices.
- Milk of Choice: Almond, oat, or dairy to bring it all together.
- Optional Boosters: Fresh turmeric (anti-inflammatory) or hemp seeds (protein).
How to Make It
- Prep the Veggies: Roughly chop your carrot so your blender can handle it easily.
- Layer the Ingredients: Add the frozen mango, strawberries, carrot, and avocado to the blender.
- Sweeten It: Pit your dates and drop them in.
- Blend until Silky: Add your liquid and whiz on high until the carrot and dates have completely disappeared into a smooth, creamy blend.
- Pour and Enjoy: Serve immediately while it’s perfectly chilled.
Get the Kids Involved
Since this smoothie is a bit of a “science experiment” in texture, it’s a great one for curious kids.
- Ages 3–5: Let them help “find” the hidden ingredients—can they spot the orange carrot or the green avocado before they disappear into the pink blender?
- Ages 6–9: Have them help pit the dates (it’s a great fine-motor skill task!) or measure the frozen mango chunks.
- Ages 10+: Let them take the lead on “texture control”—deciding if the smoothie needs an extra splash of milk to be drinkable or more mango to be spoonable.
Make It Weeknight-Friendly
- Shortcut Option: Use baby carrots instead of a full-sized carrot to save on peeling and chopping time.
- The Date Trick: If your dates are a bit dry, soak them in your smoothie milk for 5 minutes before blending so they emulsify perfectly.
- Frozen Avocado Hack: You can buy pre-cubed frozen avocado at most grocery stores now—it’s a lifesaver for quick mornings and keeps the smoothie extra cold.
- Flexibility is Key: Don’t have strawberries? Swap in raspberries or blueberries. The mango and avocado will still do the heavy lifting for the texture.
Serve & Savor
This smoothie is proof that there truly is a blend for everyone. It’s creamy, nutrient-packed, and 100% banana-free. It’s a great way to fuel the morning without compromise.

It’s true — bananas just aren’t at the top of everyone’s culinary wish list. And while they’re often the go-to smoothie base, not everyone loves their flavor or texture.
So in honor of all the banana skeptics out there, I created this Everything But Banana Smoothie — creamy, naturally sweet, nutrient-dense, and completely banana-free.
Thanks to frozen mango, avocado, and soaked cashews, you still get that rich, velvety texture you expect from a smoothie — just without the banana.
Ingredients
- ½ avocado, peeled
- 2 dates
- 1 cup frozen mango
- 1 cup frozen strawberries
- 1 carrot
- 1 teaspoon camu camu powder
- 1 inch piece fresh turmeric, peeled
- 3 tablespoons kefir
- 2 teaspoons bee pollen
- 1 tablespoon hemp seeds
- 3 tablespoons cashews, soaked
- 1½ cups almond milk
Instructions
Place all ingredients into a high-speed blender.
Step 2: PureeBlend until completely smooth and creamy. If needed, add a splash more almond milk to reach your desired consistency.
Step 3: ServePour into a tall glass, add a straw, and enjoy immediately.
Notes
- Soak the Cashews: Soaking cashews for at least 2–4 hours (or overnight) helps them blend smoothly and improves digestibility.
- Turmeric Tip: The dates help balance turmeric’s bold, earthy flavor. Don’t skip them unless you prefer a less sweet smoothie.
- Extra Creamy: Use frozen mango and strawberries straight from the freezer for a thick, milkshake-like texture.
- Dairy-Free Option: This recipe is naturally dairy-free when using almond milk and kefir alternatives.
- Optional Boost: Add a pinch of black pepper to enhance turmeric absorption.
